Children's Diet Affects Adult Disease Risk

According to Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of Disease-Proof Your Child:

"Recent studies have also found that eating fruit during childhood had powerful effects to protect against cancer in later life. A sixty year study of 4,999 participants found that those who consumed more fruit in their childhood were 38 percent less likely to develop cancer as adults."

In Disease-Proof Your Child, Dr. Fuhrman writes about the powerful influence of nutrition during a critical window between infancy and age 10. He states that while a plant-based diet can serve us well at any point in life, it is particularly important during these childhood years -- not only to ward off childhood diseases but also to reduce chronic disease risk later on in life.
